Case Study 2

A medium sized printing business settled a claim with an existing employee for a condition believed to have been caused by repeated stretching and reaching, as required within his role over the last six years. The employer felt that the activities were safe and did not believe that the activity could have lead to any such claim. However after investigation the insurance company advised that the claim should be settled and the printing business paid the excess on their policy.

Two months later the insurance policy came up for re-newel and due to the claim and the insurance company’s belief that the business did not have reasonable preventative systems in place the premium increased by almost 40%. The printing firm looked elsewhere for a more competitive quote, but realised when having to declare the recent case the alternative suppliers were asking a similar figure to their current provider.

The Financial Director agreed to remain with their current insurance provider and pay the increased premium, although he was able to agree to a price review in three months time, once he had introduced a risk management system and provided the insurance company with detailed evidence of the improved system.

We provided the business with a comprehensive risk management system, which included risk assessments, advice and guidance on reducing potential risks, near miss monitoring, accident trend analysis, staff training and a series on ongoing tool box talks for delivery by the Operations Manager on a six week basis.
